How Did Frank Gifford Introduce John Lennon to Ronald Reagan?
Strange Irony Revealed Almost 6 Years Later
On December 9, 1974, during Lennon's Lost Weekend Phase, John Lennon met Ronald Reagan in the broadcast booth for Monday Night Football at Los Angeles Memorial Colisseum. Lennon was on a break from Yoko Ono and living in LA, and he was invited by Frank Gifford to come watch the broadcast. Gifford also invited outgoing governor Ronald Reagan. Aside from the fact that both men came from different poles of the political spectrum, Reagan briefed Lennon on the rules of football. Both were interviewed by Howard Cosell during halftime at the game, which saw the Rams lose to the Redskins. Almost six years to the day after the event, Lennon would be shot dead, and his death would be announced live on Monday Night Footbal by Howard Cosell. Reagan himself would end up being shot by a stalker who, like Lennon's murderer, was a fan of The Catcher In The Rye by JD Salinger.
Notes and Special Information
Special note: Lennon may have only liked Reagan's influence and tax policies, since Lennon had quite a portfolio.
