Nickel Allergy Symptoms and Treatment Options

Nickel Allergies Can Be Lifelong, Related to Exposure

A nickel allergy,  can be a cause of what is known as allergic contact dermatitis, which is a rash that appears when skin is exposed to a substance. Nickel allergies have become more prominent with the rise of body piercings and a larger number of earrings being made out of nickel. Some other common everyday items that can cause nickel allergies are eyeglasses and watch frames. If you are allergic to nickel, you will always have a sensitivity to items containing nickel, including money. Canadians will have even more problems, since the US nickel is mostly copper, but the Canadian nickel has enough content in it to be magnetic. Some further prevention tips for nickel allergies include plating of nickel rings (for instance, if your engagement ring contains nickel) use of hypoallergenic jewelry, and the avoidance of chocolates and fish products that may have higher levels of nickel. People getting piercings should avoid nickel allergies by having the work done with stainless steel.
