How Will The National Terror Advisory System Work?
Meant to offer more credible and actionable terror information
The National Terrorism Advisory System is a new terror alert system launching April 26, 2011. This system replaces the color coded system with more specific information for authorities and first responders in areas where the threat of a terror attack may materialize. Decisions on when to recommend a terror alert will be recommended by way of the CIA, FBI, and Homeland Security agency. The new system's alerts will also expire after 2 weeks, and be more diversified than the previous system, where Orange Alert was maintained for over 5 years at airports, while the Yellow Alert was more common for civilians (except in a few well publicized cases where it went to Orange) which caused confusion. Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano also indicated that the new system will also include the public in specific anti-terror initiatives, such as looking for suspects, vehicles, or locations
Notes and Special Information
Special note: In many cases the alert comes up during the actual act, so as a citizen you should always be aware of your surroundings and have an exit route in mind should an incident happen.
