Unabomber Auction Items Benefit Bomb Victims and Survivors
Items for Sale include Manifesto, Typewriter, Sunglasses
The unabomber auction is expected to get a lot of attention from history, news, and conspiracy buffs around the globe who want to own a piece of this reclusive bomber's life. Want to buy the typewriter used to write up the infamous unabomber manifesto, or just buy the longhand copy? You can have both! You can get a pair of special shoes that were affixed to smaller ones, so the wearer would leave smaller footprints and throw off detectives. You can get a Tide box that hid bomb-manufacturing equipment, and you can even get his Harvard degree to hang on your wall!
On the surface, selling a mad bomber's accessories comes across as voyeuristic and callous, but the proceeds are going to his victims and survivors. These items have gained a bit of notoriety, and getting Theodore Kaczynski's sunglasses and jacket from the famous sketch (comparable to the DB Cooper sketch in fame) offers the buyer a trophy that just cannot be attained anywhere else. While many items, like hammers, drill bits, axes, and saws are fairly common, the fact that they can be authenticated to Kaczynski, and may have been involved in manufacturing deadly devices, makes them more valuable, and likely to appreciate over time.
Notes and Special Information
Special note: Although the idea of selling a serial bomber's items at auction seems macabre, there is a historical significance attached to items owned by an infamous person. And what's the deal with the terms and conditions of the auction? Do you have to go to Atlanta to pick the stuff up once it is ordered? The feds would make more money if they drop shipped some of these things.
